We’re living busy, socially distanced, professional lives, and trying to balance between work and networking, all the while ignoring the value of the people we work with every day. Often, our connections fall by the wayside. But connecting with others is more important than you might think. Connecting with people of similar interests and backgrounds can lower anxiety and depression, help us regulate our emotions, and lead to higher self-esteem.
The reality is that we’re living in a time of true disconnection. While technology seems to connect us more than ever, the screens around us disconnect us from ourselves, and from others.
Our inherent need for human connection doesn’t mean that every introvert must become a social butterfly and that every self-conscious person must learn to love Zoom.
